Jai Somnath novel

Critical analysis of 'Jai Somnath' novel

'Jai Somnath' novel written by Kanaiyalal Munashi. This novel divided into 17 chapters. This novel based on the history of the Somnath temple that hoe it built up and then reconstruct. There are some major characters in this novel like, Chaula, Bhimdev, Samant, Hamir, Gang Sarvagn, Shivrashi, Ganga, Sajjan, etc.

Writer shows the picture of real society. What is the situation of religion in India that is described here. In our real life there are characters with different personality as the same we can see in the novel. In this novel Samant is the strong character as compare to Bhimdev and Chaula. There is one word used in this novel 'devdasi', it means those women who serves  all the things to so called 'Pujaris'. There is a temple of Shiva in somnath. Chaula want to live her life only for God Shiva. But somehow she thinks that Bhimdev is shiva because he save chaula from Kapali. But letter on she realized that Bhimdev is not God Shiva. In the end of the novel she died after dancing for the lord shiva.
We can say that religion is like opium, people can sacrifice their lives on the name of religion. They can bravely do the things on the name of religion, nationality, caste, etc. These all things are made by human beings for the betterment of humanity. But humanity die because of those things. So, something goin wrong, we have to change those things or remove those things. Basically religion is the thing which bound the people but now in practically things are changing. This story is about the period of kings in Gujarat but now a days also the situation of religion is the same.
Thus, this novel is very well described to shows the reality.
